AdWords and Google Display Network

What do you think of services offering “unlimed clicks 24/7”?

A number of our clients have told us that they have recently been approached by companies offering them “Unlimited Clicks 24/7” advertising packages for AdWords Sponsored Links.

This is quite simply fraud and we’ll explain why.

Recap of how AdWords works

The Google AdWords system charges advertisers a specific amount every time their ad is clicked.

More simply put, this cost, also known as “Cost Per Click” is determined through demand and supply. The more advertisers wish to appear under the same crucial keyword, the more the Cost Per Click will be raised, and vice versa.

Example:

Let’s assume the example of a Cost Per Click of £0.50/click (the cost for a sector of activity with little competition between advertisers).

Now let’s imagine that your ad is clicked 50 times per day
For one month, the campaign will therefore cost: 50 clicks x 30 days x £0.50 = £750

£750 is the amount that Google will charge the agency.
However, these “Unlimited Clicks” tariffs are offered from £99 excluding taxes.

Doesn’t make sense, does it?

How is this possible?

Most of the time, these agencies will offer you very specific keywords to reduce their visibility and therefore, the number of clicks possible.

Examples of this include adding an ‘s’ to the end of your keywords to make them plural or offering you less sought after variants, which are less costly.

Sometimes these agencies will also deactivate client ads during the day, even going as far as to stop them from being shown in certain cities, with the sole purpose of reducing the number of times an ad is displayed and so reducing the amount of possible clicks on their client’s ad.

Finally, to avoid alerting clients, access to their AdWords interface is blocked (which contradicts Google’s General Conditions of Use).

There is an evident conflict of interest between an agency that does everything possible so that their client’s ads are shown (and as such, are clicked) as little as possible and an advertiser who wishes to be visible and generate a Return On Investment amongst the target clientèle and prospective customers.

“Too good to be true”

Although these agencies claim to have “special relationships with Google” which allow them to offer “Unlimited Click” packages at implausible prices, we would encourage you to act with the greatest amount of caution as such “links” do not exist.

Where will my ads appear?

Your ads will appear in one of the dedicated spaces provided for Google Adwords Ads on the Google search page. We choose to make you appear on Google Search Partner websites such as aol.co.uk, ask.co.uk and virginmedia.com.

We also offer you the option of advertising on the Google Display Network. This network accounts for 80% of web advertising space in the world and your ads will only appear on websites which relate to your field of expertise.

Example: If you sell motorcycle helmets, your ads could be shown on motorcycle sales websites, relevant forums etc.

Why is my ad not appearing when I type my keywords in Google?

Various explanations are possible:

  • As you may have noticed, there are only 11 spaces reserved for AdWords ads per Google search page. In the event that there are more than 11 advertisers using the same keywords (i.e. high competition), your ad will not appear in every search. It is for this reason that it is important to have the best quality score possible, achieved through daily optimisation that only we, the experts, can provide.
  • Your budget is not high enough. We determine a daily budget tailored to your request. Your budget allows you to access a number of visits per day and if this number is exceeded, your ad is no longer shown. Should you wish to increase your budget, please do not hesitate to contact us.

I would like to know how my AdWords ads and illustrated banners are performing

At the beginning of the month, we will send you a detailed report of the previous month’s performance. As a result, you will be able to see the number of visits your campaign has generated and the number of times your ads have been seen.

Whether the aim of your site is to obtain quotes, contact details or online sales we will also send you the number of conversions generated by your ads (also known as “conversion rate”).

We also give you access to your AdWords interface whenever you like in order to observe your performance in real time.

Could my ad be constantly displayed at the top of the page on Google?

Google’s objective is to provide relevant and high quality ads to its users, which is why the Google AdWords system does not just take into account the amount paid in order to sort the ads. The position of your ad is calculated through a very complex formula that incorporates your advertising history, your quality score and the amount of clicks (amongst other factors). As such, this system enables smaller advertisers to have as much presence as those who have much higher budgets.

It is not possible to reserve the top spot in the Adwords programme: if an agency offers you this please be vigilant, it really is not possible!

The appeal of your website to consumers is equally as important. If your ad is performing well but your website is deterring (internet users spend very little time on your website), then we would need to look at improving it to achieve the best returns possible.

Clickoo does not manage the creation or maintenance of websites (our ethos is to specialise in PPC advertising to provide you with true expertise). However, if you wish, we can advise you on what we feel would enhance your website and refer you on to our web agency partners.

Do I need to prioritise PPC advertising over SEO?

The organic optimisation of your website is extremely important. PPC advertising extends your presence, once we select various keywords, in order to appear on the first page of Google and its partners according to said keywords.

SEO can take anywhere up to a year before your website reaches the first page of Google. PPC advertising lets you have your ads up and running online in under 48 hours.

The best strategy is to work on organic optimisation but to not ignore PPC advertising as it is a significant boost to your presence and image. It allows you to access new prospects, with the essential flexibility and reactivity required for optimal online visibility.

Clickoo only manages PPC advertising but we are able to connect you with distinguished professionals who specialise in organic optimisation.

I already have an AdWords account but would like somebody else to manage it, what do I do?

It’s very simple! We offer a Free Campaign Audit service to clients with existing campaigns.

Subscribing to our services is quick and easy. If you already have an existing managing account, you will need to provide us with your Google AdWords Client ID number.

This Client ID number (located in the top right corner of your AdWords interface) is used for us to send an invite to manage your account.

Once you have sent us your ID number, a yellow box will appear displaying the message “Clickoo Ltd would like to manage your Google Adwords account” which you must accept.

After analysing your account, our AdWords experts will either suggest how to optimise it or, if we see fit, suggest to create a new campaign.

How can I change my keywords or my ads?

All you need to do it contact us via phone, e-mail or through our online chat system (found by clicking the icon in the bottom left corner of our website).

We can change your keywords at any time, as well as your ads. However, to achieve the best results, we need to have enough historic data to analyse whether the keywords and ads are relevant.

How do I make my website appear on the first page of Google?

There are 4 easy steps leading to your website appearing on the first page of Google.

Step 1
Contact us, either through the form on our website, e-mail, online chat or through speaking to us directly over the phone.

Step 2
One of our friendly experts will explain and analyse with you the best strategy for your sector of activity and the best solutions that we can offer.

Step 3
Following confirmation, an agency agreement will be sent to you which will require signing and returning to us. We will also send you a signed copy.

Step 4
Finally, you will receive an e-invoice. Upon receipt of your payment, we will publish your ads. This usually takes anywhere up to 48 hours, depending upon the size of your account.

Does the content of my website need to be original?

Yes! Original and transparent.

If Google detects the same content on other websites, the keywords associated with your ads will be automatically attributed a poor quality score. Therefore, your ads would not appear, or for a much higher price.

As such it is vital that the pages to which your ads would be linked display originalunique and transparent content.

Are there specific sectors of activity or products which cannot be advertised?

Yes, for legal and ethical reasons Google does not permit the promotion of certain products and services.

Do I need to change my website to make my campaigns more effective?

Generally, there is no real need to change your website.

We ask our clients to add a tracking code (also known as a ‘JavaScript snippet’) on certain pages of their site, regardless of whether the aim of your website is to generate online sales, quotes, subscriptions or other form-based captures.

This code allows us to track, in real time, the number of orders or quote requests (for example) which are a direct result of clicking on your ad and browsing your website.

Additionally, the results allow us to track the performance of your campaigns in relation to previous performance history and then optimise them accordingly. We can then provide you with more precise statistics relating to your campaign(s).

I need an account expert who speaks my native language

Good news! At Clickoo we are able to provide native-level linguistic support and campaign management in the following languages:

  • English (of course!)
  • French
  • Spanish
  • German
  • Italian

I received a voucher from Google in the post, can I use it?

Of course! Just let us know that you have a received one and we can credit your account with the amount specified, your account just has to be less than 14 days old.

Are my campaigns optimised by robots?

As cute and endearing as our little ‘ooBots’ may be, we prefer to manage your accounts ourselves(sorry, ooBots!).

To reduce their costs, certain agencies ensure optimisation of your campaigns through software which automates the optimisation process.

However, this software is based on cost criteria without taking into account the semantics and context of your keywords.

The campaign is then left to ‘free wheel’, which will eventually result in a degradation in quality. This then drives up costs and reduces long-term return on investment.

No. We are an agency specialising entirely in PPC Google Adwords advertising. This is a strategic choice in order to provide you with the highest quality service possible.

However, this system that prioritises quality advertisements is complex and requires an in-depth understanding of how it works.

At Clickoo, we bring you our recognised expertise with a view to helping you consistently improve the quality of your campaigns . Thus, your costs are reduced and you obtain more returns on a given budget.
